Coach Woody

Coach Woody grew up in New Jersey and has been fencing since 2002. Through middle school and high school, he trained with former Drew University head coach, Dyan DeRose, then fenced at Rutgers University for four years. During his competitive career, he earned individual and team medals at the local, state, regional, and collegiate national levels, but found his true calling in coaching. As a sabre coach at Chatham High School, Coach Woody led the nascent program to team and individual county and District championship in 2013 and 2014 before taking over as head coach of Mendham High School. He has coached and mentored students independently, and was previously on staff at Sebastiani Fencing Academy under head Coach Michel Sebastiani, former Olympian and Princeton University head coach on 20 + years, before moving to the Bay Area in 2015.

Coach Woody's training and philosophy emphasizes balance, athleticism, and mindfulness. In addition to fencing, Coach Woody is an avid distance runner and rock climber and enjoys recreational basketball and tennis.

Mr. Linetsky began his career as a student of the well known fencing Maestro Arkady Burdan in Odessa, USSR in 1973. During his career he has been a fencer, a coach, and a referee. He has been recognized at excelling in each of these roles.

As a fencer his foremost accomplishments are placing first in 1976 in a country-wide team competition in the former Soviet Union. The competition known as "Uni Dynamovets." He was awarded an individual SIlver Medal in the Ukranian National Junior Championship, in Khmelnitsky, Ukraine in 1978.  Coach Linetsky was part of the team that won first place in the Ukrainian National Tournament in Kerch in 1980. He has won numerous medals in local and club tournaments over the years and was awarded the prestigious Master of Sport title in the former Soviet Union in 1978.

As a coach his foremost accomplishments includes being an assistant coach at the Arkady Burdan Club at the beginning of the 1980's and receiving the title of Prevot de Sabre. He has worked at the Coastside Fencing Club and is continuing with the San Francisco Sabre School.

As a referee Mr. Linetsky has been rated as a referee in all three disciplines but specializing in Sabre and has refereed at local and national tournaments.

This place is spectacular.  We started with a groupon, and had two 20 minute sessions, but they have beginning adult classes Friday nights from 6 to 7:30, and we'll certainly be going!

Summer Camp

Summertime is when kids are searching for fun, action, and teamwork; we offer all of that at our summer camp. Not only will our students be trained by top-level coaches, but they will also develop important skills to be applied in future competitions and in life. Sf Sabre School is located by the Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach, two ideal terrains to develop cardio and stamina. The students will be returning home with stories of their matches, with more passion for the sport, and an overall more enriched experience during their time off school.
